With the removal of sanctions on Syria by President Trump and the UK and Iraq issuing their joint trade and strategic cooperation in January 2025 the Middle East looks to be returning to normality after the decades of intervention and The Arab Spring of 2010.
Iraq's political instability persists
In late March 2023, the Iraqi government passed amendments that would increase the size of electoral districts, reducing opportunities for smaller parties and independent candidates to win seats in future elections.
At a settlement named - Al Longmoor, which is situated near the Syrian border, U.K. and US forces remain to support the new Iraqi government and to train and rebuild infrastructure in the region.
